The Dangers of Eating Cookie Dough vs Gookie Dough
Cookie dough is delicious, there's no argument with that. We've all licked the bowl and spoon clean as a child and found that the dough itself tastes so much better than the end result of the baked cookie. Yet, we are always warned not to eat the dough as it is harmful to us and we can become ill. This is why Gookie Dough was created, a cookie dough that tastes just as good as homemade but with zero risks. So, why is normal cookie dough so bad for us?

The bacteria in homemade dough
You think that everything you whisk up at home is relatively safe to eat if you know what you're doing. Something that may surprise you is that the flour in your dough can be harmful. Flour is a raw product which means it hasn't been treated to kill bacteria such as E.coli. Harmful pathogens can contaminate the grain while it's still in the field or at other stages when the flour is being produced. The bacteria is only killed when the product is cooked or backed. This is why the raw batter can be harmful.
E.coli symptoms tend to develop between three or four days after exposure to the bacteria, however, sometimes it can be a lot sooner. Symptoms aren't very pleasant and include abdominal cramping and vomiting. Now, healthy adults can recover from the E.coli invasion but young children and older adults have a greater risk of becoming more ill, leading to problems such as kidney failure.
Raw eggs
When making cookies, we add eggs because they're being put into the oven and they're one of the most used ingredients in the world. however, raw eggs or foods containing them can increase the risk of salmonella infections. Salmonella can be present on the egg shells but also inside of the egg, consuming the egg raw can cause food poisoning if uncooked because again, the heat when being cooked will kill anything harmful. It is only ever safe to consume raw eggs if they have been pasteurised.

How to store Gookie Dough
It's advised that Gookie Dough is stored in the fridge when not planning to consume anytime soon. That being said, if you don't want to sit struggling with a spoon straight out of the refrigerator then leave your favourite flavour on the side at room temperature for a few hours and let it do its thing. Once warm, the dough will be easier to work with and have more flavour. Divine. Your Gookie Dough will last up to 4 weeks in the fridge but the tubs are always stamped with a date at the bottom! Alternatively, it can last up to 12 months in the freezer. But let's be real, does anyone really wait that long? It's too tempting! So long new year's resolution.

Is Gookie Dough Safe To Consume Raw
It seems to confuse our customers sometimes that our product sounds too good to be true! Edible cookie dough? No way! It must contain eggs or something that causes salmonella. Well, maybe we're a game changer and slightly revolutionary. Not that we like to blow our own trumpet or anything!
Raw?!
So yes, Gookie Dough is 100% safe to consume raw so you can enjoy eating as much cookie dough as physically possible until you've pretty much turned into a unicorn from all of the sprinkles and white chocolate chips. Due to the fact that no eggs are added in our product means that we're super egg free and you can eat when pregnant. I mean, that's a very lucky baby indeed because who wouldn't want their first ever dessert to be a fudgy red velvet delight?
Can it be baked?
We've made a discovery which means you can bake any of your monster tubs of deliciousness. Unbaked is our aim, but you know what? Get experimental. Pop your dough into little balls and pop them in a fan assisted oven at 180degrees for 12 minutes. The result? Crispy on the outside and gorgeously gooey on the inside. The most astonishing part? Gookie Dough contains no raising-agents so abracadabra!
